Maharashtra Elektrosmelt Ltd, a subsidiary of SAIL is planning to expand its ferro alloy plant with an investment of Rs. 10,000
million at Chandrapur. It plans to set up two new furnaces besides a captive power plant of 45 MW. Currently, MEL is the largest
producer of carbon-ferro manganese and silicon manganese. It also explores the possibility to produce ferro nickel. Most of the
production will be supplied to SAIL as a raw material to manufacture steel.
