BMW Industries plans to expand steel plant at Sankrail in Howrah district of West Bengal with an investment of Rs. 1449.3 million. The project involves setting up of induction furnace 4x15 T, 2,21,100 TPA Liquid Steel & 2,15,573 TPA Billets) and a wire rod mill (78,794 TPA) Induction melting technology will be used for the production of steel. The process will involve melting of charge mix of sponge iron, cast iron, MS skull in a molten bath at 1550oC to produce molten metal, which will be converted to Ingots/Billets. In the steel rolling mill, reheated billets will be converted to desired finished product in hot condition. In the wire rod mill, ingots / billets will be converted to desired finished section in hot condition by passing the material between a pair of grooved rolls and providing suitable draft at various stages. In TMT process, hot bars will be subjected to quenching by means of an intense cooling installation.
