Kanishk Steel Industries to expand billet casting unit at Papankuppam


Kanishk Steel Industries to expand billet casting unit at Papankuppam in Gummidipoondi taluk in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. The project involves setting up of Billet Casting Unit (20,000 TPM) and Co-generation Power Plant (10 MW) within the existing premises (122 acres) with an investment of Rs. 900 million. Sponge Iron Plant (200 TPD) is existing and it is proposed to install a new Co-generation Power Plant (10 MW) i.e. WHRB (5 MW) based on the flue gases from sponge iron plant and FBC (5 MW) to make use of dolochar and to produce 20,000 TPM billets. The expansion details of the new unit are as follows.

Steel billets will be manufactured by melting of steel scraps/sponge iron in Electric Induction Furnace (3x20 TPH) and formed into billets in a continuous casting machine, which are cut to require length and cooled.

Essar Steels opens modern steel service center near Chennai

 

Essar Steel, has opened a modern steel service centre in Oragadam near Chennai to service its auto customers. The centre was put up with an investment of Rs. 750 million and has a capacity to process 2.5 lakh tpa of steel. Service centre are independent business and is a new concept in India which is picking up.

Sundareswarar Alloy and Steels Ltd has commenced building works on its steel plant in Seyanoor in Manamadurai district of TN. The 3 lakh tpa plant coming up at an investment of Rs.7000 million is promoted by NRI’s from ASEAN and Hongkong. The plant is expected to become operational from 18 months after financial closure. The company plans to pump Rs.15000 million in phases over the next 5 years.

The project involves setting up a unit to produce 300,000 tonnes of alloy, special and stainless steel. The semi-finished products would find application in downstream industries, mainly in the automotive sector for making engine parts and chassis. As of March 2010, the company has been allotted about 500 acres of land in Melur for the project
