Hindustan Tin Works to expand its Taloja facility

Hindustan Tin Works is planning to invest Rs. 2200 million in joint venture with Rexam Plc to set up a second production line in Taloja plant near Mumbai. It will expand its capacity from 300 million cans to 850 million cans. It is likely to be completed by end 2012.

Hindustan Copper seeks more copper deposits

Hindustan Copper Ltd is scouting actively for more copper deposits in the country. It has recently applied for a number of reconnaissance and prospecting licence in the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Haryana. It has recently acquired prospecting lease in an area of 36.07 sq km at Baniwali-Ki Dhani in Sikar district of Rajasthan. Jatta, Shitalpani, Dhori and Gidori in Madhya Pradesh is also being explored for prospecting mineral deposits. The company is also considering to revive the Hutti Gold Mines – copper operation in Chitradurga in Karnataka.

Sterlite to expand copper smelter capacity at Tuticorin

Sterlite Industries which has a copper smelter at Tuticorin is planning to invest Rs.23000 million to double its copper smelting capacity. It is expanding its production capacity from 1200 tpd to 2400 tpd.. Further after expansion of copper smelter it will be one of the largest copper smelter in the world in a single location. Currently, the company exports 40% of its produce to China, West and South East Asia while post-expansion it will cater 80% to domestic markets. It may be noted, the company is also adding a 2x60 MW coal based thermal power unit with an investment of Rs. 6500 million.
