Utkal Alumina International to commission its Doraguha refinery by July 2011
Utkal Alumina International Ltd (UAIL), a Aditya Birla company is setting up its alumina refinery in Dorguha, near Kasipur in Rayagada district of Orissa. Nearly 40% of the work had been completed and the equipment for the plant had arrived in Vizag port. Around Rs.70,000 million had been invested in the project. It may be noted, Tata and Norsk Hydro and Alcan had been partners in the project but exited due to inordinate delay of 18 years. Alumina produced here will serve as a feedstock to smelter of Hindalco in Rengali and Mahana.Pioneer Alloy Castings to invest Rs.4000 million in Renigunta
Pioneer Alloy Castings has two foundries one at Gummidipoondi and another one at Renigunta with a cumulative casting capacity of 40,000 tonnes. The company is currently planning to invest Rs.4000 million to augment machining capacity. The company also has 30 acres of land at Renigunta, 15 acres in Tada and 6 acres in Gummidipoondi supplies to OEMs like Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher and TAFE tractors and has orders worth Rs.4000 million . Sree Metaliks has two integrated steel complex at Barbil and Angul in Orissa with a capacity of 0.28 mtpa which was set up at an investment of Rs.3070 million. The company is planning to invest Rs.20000 million to set up a 540 MW (2 x 270 MW) captive power unit near upcoming Dhamra Port. The project will use imported and indigenous coal which may be procured from Mozambique. Besides this, the company is also planning to set up 0.7 mtpa integrated steel plant (1.2 mtpa pelletization plant, 1mtpa beneficiation plant and a 50 MW captive power unit) at Anra in Keonjhar district in the state with an investment of Rs. 9670 million. Essar Steel is in the process of commissioning its steel project which will raise its production capacity from 4.6 mtpa to 10.0 mtpa. To facilitate operations and for optimization, the company has sought an alliance from Rio Tinto for supply of iron ore to the tune of 160000 tonnes of iron ore from Rio Tinto’s Pilbara mines from Australia.
